I’m a graphic designer working and living in the rolling hills of Austin, TX. Yes, there is a lot of live music here. No, I don’t listen to any of it. I haven’t had huge clients. I don’t currently work for a nationally recognized design agency. I am the only graphic designer working for a global software company. I’ve developed brand and identity for this company. I’ve designed their annual report for 4 years. I do what I can, I get what I get and I don’t throw a fit.

this web site
For over a decade, my presence on the web was relegated to SITE|tamashii. While there’s a lot of equity in that .com, I’ve grown up since buying the domain and putting up my first version of the site. Back then, I was very much into web design and development. I would split my time between designing and building web sites. In the last couple of years, I’ve determined that to have been a mistake. I am not, admittedly, as naturally talented in either as many of the people I look up to in the industry. I was so eager to “get out there” and be this other person, that I failed to pick an area and hone my skills there. There are a rare few out there that can design and develop web sites. Personally, I think it’s a mistake for companies to hire those that claim to do both; but that’s a debate best left for another time.

This site, however, will focus on my being a designer. That’s what I want to do. That’s where I want to be. I am not a developer and don’t feel that’s where I should take my career. I designed this site, but am leaving much of the development aspects to my good friend, James Kersey. He knows what he’s doing and has a vast pool of talent for such things. As the site uses the Wordpress engine, I’ll be able to make small, simple edits.

getting a hold of me
I’m not that hard to get a hold of in the internet world. A quick Google of “tamashii” has me coming up on the first page. Coincidentally, as of this posting, via my twitter account. You can email me via Gmail’s excellent service with “neotamashii.” Perhaps in the future, I’ll have an “info” or “contact” for this domain, but who knows.
